[NFL MEDIA] Production Counsel

NFL Media seeks to engage a Production Counsel on a part time basis for two series produced by NFL Media, “Good Morning Football” and “GMFB: Overtime”. The role will advise and manage legal production and standards & practices matters for the two series - NFL Network’s 2-hour “Good Morning Football” (GMFB), and the complementary 2-hour series, “GMFB: Overtime,” which is distributed in syndication and via streaming.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend and/or watch live daily in-studio tapings (5-9 am)

  • Identify and handle all potential legal matters that may arise during production

  • Function as a standards & practices delay operator, responsible for operating and engaging the ''Delay button'' (training provided)

  • Monitoring live television and executing edits in real-time, inserting mutes, bleeps, and cutaways that mitigate risk

  • Provide legal oversight of the daily production of both shows to identify and manage legal issues and ensure compliance with broadcast standards and practices

  • Stay informed of planned segments, providing legal input and guidance for any questions or issues that may arise before and/or during filming, including securing all necessary clearances and approvals and identifying potential issues for re-airs and social

  • Review scripts for legal and general copy issues. Identify potential issues and discuss them with producers/hosts

  • Provide feedback and guidance on best ways to execute a segment/social idea to minimize legal risk while achieving the creative goal

  • Work with and maintain relationships with NFL legal office in NY

  • Provide thoughtful legal advice on all potential legal risks and compliance issues in a variety of areas; respond to all legal questions from producers/staff/hosts on issues including clearance, copyright, sponsorship, risk, etc.

  • Review and secure all necessary clearances and approvals for third party materials to be used in the show

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong attention to detail

  • An undergraduate degree and a law degree

  • Incredible focus and quick/instinctive reflex reactions

  • Strong knowledge of Broadcast Standards and Practices

  • An awareness of contemporary speech on TV and other media

  • Interest in sports, music, entertainment, or the broadcasting process

  • 10+ years working on production-related legal issues on a television program

  • Ability to give thoughtful legal advice that balances business/creative objectives while minimizing legal risk

  • Able to build rapport with various stakeholders quickly and possess confidence to express expertise while accepting feedback and others’ points-of-view in a highly collaborative environment

  • Capable of learning rules and applying them contextually as an independent thinker

This is a part-time role.
