[MILWAUKEE BUCKS] Staff Counsel
The Staff Counsel is responsible for supporting the Chief Legal Officer, VP of Business and Legal Operations and the Bucks legal department with a broad range of legal and compliance matters associated with the operations of the Milwaukee Bucks and its affiliated entities currently including Fiserv Forum and the Wisconsin Herd.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Charitable Foundation: Assist with all Milwaukee Bucks Foundation legal and administrative matters.
Arena Matters: Assist with arena matters as it relates to the lease of and concerts and events at Fiserv Forum.
Data Privacy and Security: Assist with privacy law compliance with respect to data protection/security and retention.
Litigation and Claims: Support company litigation and claims, generally handled through outside counsel and/or insurance as needed.
Legal Research: Conduct legal research on relevant issues as they arise and summarize and provide recommendations to senior management.
Contracts and Related Matters: Primary drafting, compliance and enforcement for all marketing, ticketing, licensing, events and promotional agreements, including sweepstakes and contest rules. In addition, assist with employment and sponsorship contracts and other transactional matters from time to time.
League Rules: Responsible to familiarize themself with all relevant league rules including NBA Operations Manual and Collective Bargaining Agreement, and the organization with the analysis and interpretation of such rules.
Intellectual Property: Assist with enforcement and maintenance of organization-wide trademarks, copyrights and other intellectual property matters, including, but not limited to working with league intellectual property counsel.
Contract Administration: Primary responsibility for creation, maintenance and continuous implementation of a contract storage/administration system and standardized storage policy.
Human Resources/Employment Matters: Assist the legal team, together with outside counsel and Human Resources, on employment and labor relations matters, including compliance with state and federal statutes and regulations.
Miscellaneous: Such other matters as may be advised by the Chief Legal Officer, VP of Business and Legal Operations, CFO and/or President.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university;
Juris doctor degree from accredited law school (law review/journal preferred);
Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of legal corporate/transactional experience, preferably with a professional sports team;
Licensed to practice law within the United States, and applicable Wisconsin in-house corporate status;
Strong legal research and contractual/statutory interpretation abilities;
Friendly, courteous, professional, outgoing, and customer-service oriented;
Strong collaborator but able to work independently and efficiently with minimum supervision;
Willing to work long hours that are constantly evolving including weekends and holidays; and
Strong writing and oral communication skills.
